Tara Courier Services Limited (TARA) was founded in 1983 and is a privately owned, Jamaican Courier Service. We have over thirty years experience in the courier industry and have grown to become the largest locally based courier company on the island. We are able to provide full island wide delivery service options with our extensive network of 6 branch offices and 40 Drop Stations across the island, along with a fleet of over 100 vehicles, 2 aircrafts and 3 trucks. Our service is supported by a dedicated team of approximately 80 couriers and 100 office staff island-wide. The company is recognized as Jamaica’s #1 Courier Service, delivering thousands of packages daily to a wide cross section of individuals and corporate clients, in all fourteen parishes. In recent years, we also added TARA USA to our portfolio—an online shopping and package forwarding service. This allows us to facilitate our customers not only locally but internationally as well. TARA is also the Authorized Service Contractor for United Parcel Service (UPS). As the world’s leading package delivery company, UPS provides many solutions to your international shipping needs.

Our History

1983

Tara Courier Services is founded by Steven Laing.

Tara Courier Services is founded by Steven Laing. Originally a cash transporting business based in Kingston with deliveries being done with one vehicle operating out of his home.

1984

TARA expands to fifteen clients, three cars and added employees.

TARA expands to fifteen clients, three cars and added employees. Word spreads that TARA was providing a reliable and trustworthy service.

Late 1980's

TARA moves...

to a more spacious office location at Phoenix Avenue in Kingston.

1989

The first request for a non-cash parcel delivery service.

This causes a chain reaction and other clients enquire about the new service.

1994

Client base expands

The volume of work increases significantly as the client base expands and the timely coverage of delivery areas cannot be accomplished only by road! TARA starts renting aircrafts out of Tinson Pen Aerodrome and commences cargo transport via Air. This same year TARA decides to move from Phoenix Ave, Kingston to Maxfield Ave.

1995

TARA purchases its first single-engine Aircraft!

1996

TARA purchases a second single-engine Aircraft!

1997

Focus Shifts

The decision is made to only focus on the parcel delivery service versus the cash courier service. TARA acquires land on Lyndhurst Road, Kingston and builds its Head Quarters.

2000

TARA purchases its first twin engine aircraft.

This allows for faster deliveries, overnight delivery and the ability to fly through adverse weather conditions.

2001

Observer Business Leader

Steven Laing is nominated for “Observer Business Leader” award, in recognition of TARA’s growth and his leadership as Managing Director.

2006

Special Olympics Hero Status

TARA is awarded “Special Olympics Hero Status” for outstanding contributions and support over the years to the Jamaica Special Olympics Organization.

2007

Tara USA service opens

The official opening of the Tara USA service, which gives customers the ability to order packages online and have TARA ship, clear and deliver the packages to their doorstep.

2008

PSOJ Member

TARA becomes a full Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) Member.

2010

Haiti Relief Effort

Salvation Army recognizes TARA for Voluntary work during the Haiti Relief Effort.

2014

Local authorized contractor for UPS

TARA Courier Services officially becomes the local authorized contractor for UPS in Jamaica.

2015

Airpak Express Purchased

TARA purchases Airpak Express Courier package service and client base.

Our Fleet

Ground Fleet

Our fleet of over 50 vans and 10 motorbikes allow for faster pickups and deliveries of envelopes and packages. This service was designed to facilitate the corporate metropolitan areas island-wide and provide Same Day delivery. Our coverage also extends to all other rural and remote areas for Next Day delivery.

Oversized Truck Fleet

We have 3 trucks within our fleet that allow us to transport almost anything for our customers! From car parts to furniture we have the trucks to do the job and get your items to you in a timely fashion.

Aircraft Fleet

We currently have 2 Cessna Aircrafts which allows us to provide faster deliveries and overnight deliveries to our customers. We serve Tinson Pen Aerodrome, Sangster International Airport and Negril Aerodrome.
